SIAMO- Day 5

The fifth day (31st March) of our camp started at 9 am in the college. In the morning we had data analysis and interpretation of the survey. The highlight of the day was the Community Kitchen where we had to prepare the lunch. For that purpose, some teacher trainees were allotted the duty.  Evaluation and valedictory session was conducted. Members from each group presented their views about the camp. Our principal presented the evaluation about the camp. A camp news article was read which included the entire journey of the teacher trainees during the five-day camp. It was followed by the delicious lunch prepared by our friends. With this, our five-day community living camp came to an end. The community camp helped us acquire skills in planning, organizing, administration and implementing camp programmes with productive use of time, communication skills, working with team spirit. It helped in developing the overall personality and broadens our mental abilities.

SIAMO- Day 4

The fourth day (30th March) of the camp started with a yoga session from 7am-8am.  Then we had our breakfast. We then assembled in the auditorium for a talk by Dr. Sarun Sabith on “Nature based solution for sustainable future”. He gave us an idea about nature, its various components, ecosystem and humans intervention with nature, various types of ecological crises- such as global warming, biodiversity loss, pollution.  Later we had a class on First Aid by Sr. Saritha Philip (superintendent of jubilee memorial Hospital). Sister enlightened us on first aid, the qualities of a first aid provider, his principles, and First aid measures given during different situations.  We were then given time for analysis of data of the survey conducted. We had our lunch which was followed by cultural programmes. 

SIAMO- Day 3

On the 3rd day (29th March) of our community living camp, we started with morning mass at 5.30 am in Poovar church. Later we had a session of Yoga at 6.30 am. A small break was given to visit the nearby beach. We had our breakfast by 9 am. After that we continued with the survey in the locality, which was the most relevant and unforgettable experience for each one of us. During the second day survey collection, I along with my companions covered Unit 12 which consisted of 21 families. We returned by 12.30 pm. We had lunch at 1.15 pm and it was so delicious. After lunch, there was a gathering in the Community Hall where Fr. Aneesh appreciated the active participation of ward council members and BCC leaders. The Poovar journey was to be ended with a boating and beach visit. We had our return bus to our college by 7pm and reached our campus and had dinner. The night was made more memorable with a campfire and lots of music.

SIAMO- Day 2

On the second day of the camp (28th March), we started our journey by bus from St. Jacob's Training College, Menamkulam to S.B Community Hall, Poovar. The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Aneesh Fernandez gave us a very warm welcome. Father gave us a brief introduction about the History of Poovar, its culture and the Communities under St. Bartholomew Church. They have almost 2000 families which are further divided into 11 wards and 4 units each. He enlightened us with his words "Teaching is the art of touching hearts continuously ". Next was a class taken by Mr. Sankar. He educated us about life as a Cooperate person and the life as a teacher.  We were given instructions regarding the conduction of the baseline and health survey. We went for our 1st day survey by 2:00 pm. All the teacher trainees divided into pair or group of 3 and interacted with different family members with the locality. SIAMO- Day 1

St. Jacob’s Training College, Menamkulam organized a five-day community living camp ‘Siamo 2023’ from 27th March to 31st March 2023. There were four groups, namely, Ruby, Emerald, Fluorite and Sapphire and 51 teacher trainees were divided into four groups and several duties were assigned to each group for each day of the camp. The theme for the Community Living Camp is “Nature, Culture, Agriculture and Education”.  The inauguration of the Community Living Camp was on the 27th of March in our college. The programme began at 1:30 pm with a prayer in the auditorium of our college followed by a inaugural ceremony. A resource person was invited to enlighten us about the theme: Nature, Culture, Agriculture and Education. Mr. Joseph, Regional Manager Horticorp spoke about Farming the Future. Tea and snacks were distributed and later the instruction and future planning of the camp was done.

Cricket Tournament Winners

On 11th March a Intercollegiate Cricket Tournament was organised by BNV College of Teacher Education. Our college boys cricket team participated and bagged the first prize. They were awarded with Easwari Amma Teacher Ever Rolling Trophy.  On 13th March each teacher trainee was congratulated and rewarded for their success in our college. 

International Women's Day 2023

8th March is International Women's Day devoted to celebrating the achievements of women and seeking gender equality. This year's campaign theme is #Embrace Equity, while the United Nations' theme is digital: Innovation and technology for gender equality".  Our college organised a resource talk on Lifestyle Diseases by Dr. G. P. Sidhi (Senior Medical Officer, Indian systems of medicines). The session was very useful as it enlightened us with many new information regarding lifestyle diseases. This was followed by cultural programmes. 

Life Skills Session

On March 2nd, 2023 we had a session on Life Skill Education and Stress Management. The session was conducted as a Capacity Building Workshop for our juniors and we also became a part of it. The aim of the workshop was to equip student teachers to face the challenges of classroom situations in a multicultural society and uplift the quality of teacher education on par with global standards. Resource person for the session was Dr. Sujith Edwin Pereira. He made us understand about different life skills by performing many individual and group activities. the session was a great success and we all enjoyed a lot.
